Among the various types of miniaturized devices, we can distinguish two main classes:

2.1 Two-phase mixers and contactors
The primary purpose of micromixers and microcontactors is to bring two miscible or immiscible fluids into contact, in order to homogenize them rapidly, promote material transfer or a reaction, or create a dispersion with controlled properties.
