Modeling in process engineering

A model is a means of capitalizing on and increasing our knowledge of a system. It makes it possible to optimize the operating conditions of the process with regard to various constraints (cost, safety, environment...) and to operate it by controlling it so that it remains around its optimum point. Modeling is an art, but also a learning process:

• an "art", because it is not enough to read the bibliography provided on the subject to be able to develop the "right" model (hypotheses formulated, degree of complexity, precision of results, etc.); a certain creativity and expertise are required;

• a learning process: to build a model, you need to understand the causes and consequences of the effects of each phenomenon.
