3. Data used to study spectra
The discussion will focus on the spectra of products in solution or pure liquids. The spectra of products in solid form or powders suspended in nujol may show certain anomalies, particularly with regard to the intensity or position of lines, due to certain intermolecular coupling possibilities in the crystal lattice.
Note :
nujol is a vaseline oil (saturated hydrocarbons) often used in IR to disperse powders. The finely ground product is then suspended.
