4. Conclusion
By 2030, the market for superconductors is expected to generate around 6.5 × 109 €/year in various fields involving energy, transport, medical, observation, the environment... Applications concerning electricity transmission and distribution account for 20-30% of this market. Demand for superconducting tapes would then be, on the order of 106 km/year (half of which by 2020). This is three orders of magnitude higher than current production capacity, with a scaling effect on production costs that could divide the figure of merit cost/kA · m by a factor of 10 (i.e. the cost to manufacture a 10 m cable capable of carrying 100 A of current)....
