Before giving a detailed description of the three thermoelectric effects, we'll return to the two well-known transport properties in solids, namely electrical and thermal conductivity. For the sake of clarity, let's consider an isotropic homogeneous material in the form of an elongated rod, as shown in figure 1 a.
