2. Ultimate electronics: towards the single-electron transistor
MOS-silicon technology dominates the microelectronics market. Will this remain true for nanoelectronics? Probably, for at least a few more decades. III-V transistors, on the other hand, are still reserved for very high frequencies. In both cases, miniaturization poses the same technological challenges, and similar solutions are being found: firstly, the use of heterostructures, followed by a reflection on original geometries.
