1. Emissions from biomass fires
Forest fires, and biomass combustion in general, emit a wide variety of species, including greenhouse gases, aerosols and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Worldwide, fires are the second largest source of VOCs, and are the main contributor to changes in concentration of carbon monoxide (CO) and particulate matter (PM) over the course of the year.
