Let's denote by A and AR the complex amplitudes respectively of the wave Σ scattered by the object and of the reference wave Σ R (figure 4) at hologram H.
The total amplitude at point H is :AH = A + AR
The recording medium is sensitive to the light energy W it receives per unit area, i.e. the product of illuminance (or intensity I) and exposure time τ .

Photographers call this product lumination. It is an energy density (a fluence) often expressed in µJ/cm2.
