2. Hypermedia documents
Two facets of the notion of hypermedia are inseparable: that of information structure and that of interaction with information. There can be no hypermedia without interaction, and no specific organization of information for a human task.
2.1 Hypermedia documents, systems and applications
A hypermedia document is one that supports reading in which the reader can directly access other information associated with what he or she is reading, by simple selection. Implicitly, hypermedia reading presupposes the presence of a device making this interaction possible.
A book cannot be said to be a hypertext document, even if it contains numerous internal references, because it lacks interactivity....
