As the large baffle is impractical to use, it is almost always the closed enclosure that is used to separate the front and rear waves. In this case, the rear wave remains trapped and cannot interfere with the wave radiated by the front of the loudspeaker.

The separation is radical, but this method is not without its drawbacks. The closed enclosure constitutes a rear load which will modify the behavior of the loudspeaker. This modification mainly affects the natural frequency of the moving element and the efficiency of the transmitter. It also favors the appearance of enclosure eigenmodes.
