In high definition, the doubling of definition in both image dimensions, together with the use of a 16:9 aspect ratio, leads to a 5-fold increase in the number of pixels to be processed, compared with SD. In the 1080i/25 format chosen by France, we're reduced to a useful bitrate before compression of 1.036 Gbit/s.
