4. Conclusion
The IS-IS protocol is now deployed on a very large number of operator backbone networks. Transporting voice and video services over IP networks (with their strong real-time constraints) requires certain adaptations to the technologies used in these networks. For IS-IS, this means developing :
the convergence and robustness of the IS-IS protocol;
differentiated routing functions to enhance QoS (Quality of Service) capability for new services.
The IS-IS protocol is IPv6-ready, with virtually no changes to the protocol. IS-IS' rich functionality and scalability justify its deployment and guarantee its longevity.
