3. Cell respiration
The basic idea behind cell breathing is to adapt cell sizes to the distribution of traffic over the coverage area, and to deactivate any inefficiently used base station: i.e. a base station with little or no user load, which is unnecessarily active at full power. In this case, the best thing to do is to redistribute the load to neighbouring cells, so that the base station can then be deactivated. As a result, when the cell-breathing technique is inserted into the access network, the cells appear to inflate and deflate, giving the impression that they are breathing.
