4. Facilitating the evolution of TCP for the Internet of the Future
More and more extensions have been specified and continue to be proposed by the community to enrich the TCP protocol. Most of these extensions are based on the definition of new TCP options exchanged between two TCP terminals. However, the actual use of these options is problematic for several reasons. This section discusses two of these reasons, as well as associated solutions to facilitate the introduction of new TCP extensions and thus encourage the evaluation and deployment of new TCP innovations on a large scale.
