7. Multisegment architecture – Pseudowire (MS-PW)
In previous sections, we discussed the encapsulation and implementation of a single-segment PW. This type of PW, established between two pairs of PEs, is known as a monosegment PW or Single Segment PW (SS-PW).
We will now describe the reasons for defining the concept of a multi-segment PW architecture. MS-PW does not differ from SS-PW in its encapsulation modes. MS-PW retains the properties of an end-to-end PW. This PW is simply split into several segments. We'll look at the advantages of such segmentation. Finally, we present FEC129, the other possible PW identifier for PW signaling. We conclude this paragraph by presenting the mechanisms for dynamically setting up an MS-PW based on the use of FEC129.
