It's becoming increasingly common to find numerous references to LDAP in the literature and on web pages
. And it seems quite clear that this phenomenon is growing. Indeed, it's increasingly difficult to imagine a world without shared directories, and in particular without LDAP-based directories. LDAP seems to have established itself as the industry standard. LDAP's uses cover many aspects of corporate life, whatever the size of the company. LDAP is used to distribute "white pages" type directories, is starting to replace NIS servers more and more often, can be used as a certificate distribution server, for user authentication, etc.
