3. Functional model
The functional model describes the means of accessing data and the operations that can be applied to it. The functional model is subdivided into two parts: basic operations and extended operations. While the former are standardized, the latter can, a priori, be designed independently. However, a number of extended operations are beginning to be regarded as standardized. The basic operations are summarized in table 2.
The various operations offer more or fewer parameters, allowing you to refine your queries. For example, the search command takes the form of a query with a maximum of eight parameters, as shown in table 3.
