3. Conclusion
Despite a justified a priori, the performance of both Java/RMI and Java/IDL techniques seems satisfactory. For example, on an Ethernet LAN, a method call between two Java objects located on two UNIX workstations in two different sub-networks takes 4 ms. This performance, combined with the ease with which these mechanisms can be implemented in Java, opens the door to the design and development of distributed applications on local networks.
