It's worth recalling that, over the years, a number of solutions have been proposed by market suppliers, representing major developments in storage systems (see 1). Starting with DAS systems (Direct Attached Storage, passive peripherals), architects have successively designed intelligent systems (data sharing via a controller), a dedicated file service (NAS appliance for Network Attached Storage ), then networking (functional richness of the SAN, Storage Area Network ), before today proposing virtualization (i.e. a logical vision of storage).
