6.1 Definitions
The aim here is not to explain in detail what a real-time system is. We can, however, give a simple definition of such a system.
A real-time system is a software/hardware combination in which the software enables hardware resources to be properly managed, so that certain tasks can be carried out within specific time limits.
The notion of real-time is closely linked to embedded software, since virtually all proprietary embedded operating systems are real-time (VxWorks, pSOS, LynxOS, QNX, VRTX, etc.).
