2. Design modes and associated loads
As with all structural or machine components, two types of dimensioning (or verification) calculations are developed, if necessary:
calculations under static loading to verify the joint's resistance to fracture, or to check the limiting deformation conditions;
calculations under time-varying loads (fatigue calculations), which involve assessing and guaranteeing an estimated service life under normal operating conditions.
As we'll see later, dimensioning a splice under static loads is very straightforward, and generally poses no problems.
