Brake blending
The principle of controlling the different types of brakes on a vehicle or rail convoy according to predefined combination laws.
Disc brake; frein à disque
A type of brake in which the braking force is applied in the form of torque to a brake disc attached to the axle or wheel.
Sole or shoe brake; tread brake
Type of brake where braking force is applied directly to the wheel periphery.
Dynamic brake
A type of brake that uses the inertia of the moving vehicle to generate a retarding force.
Slack adjuster
Device for maintaining constant clearance between friction materials to compensate for wear.
