9. Current Context and Outlook
Climate change is now clearly evident across the globe: rising temperatures and increasingly frequent summer heat waves, a rise in extreme weather events (hurricanes and tornadoes, droughts and/or floods, , rising sea levels threatening vast and often densely populated coastal areas, damage to biodiversity, human migration linked to climate change, etc.
The Earth has, of course, already experienced significant climate changes, but the current pace is extremely rapid, and it is widely accepted that a large part of the responsibility for these disruptions lies with the massive production of greenhouse gases resulting from human activity in the recent period of human history.
