4. Towards standardization
Since 2009, regulatory and standards work has been underway in various countries and international bodies. Their aim is to frame the issues, define tomorrow's sound rules and harmonize specifications. This work is a real opportunity, as it enables us to anticipate and prepare for the sound environment of the future. Today, vehicle sounds are still largely subdued, as they are closely linked to motorization technologies. Sound systems should make it possible to offer better sound quality and safety without increasing noise pollution. However, the creativity of manufacturers should not be overly restricted, as it is a vector of progress. The challenge of standardization is to contain excesses and guarantee minimum performance for the public. Clearly, this will evolve with technology and the state of the art.
