6. Functionalization of gold nanoparticles: an effective strategy for complementary properties
In addition to the properties specific to the gold element and gold nanoparticles, additional and complementary functions can be provided by ligands. Gold nanoparticles can be functionalized during synthesis (Brust method) or after synthesis (post-functionalization) by replacing citrate ions (gold nanoparticles obtained by the Turkevitch or Frens method) or part of the ligands supplied during synthesis.
