1. Zirconia extraction
The element zirconium is found in over thirty ores, some of which are listed in Table 1. Most of these ores contain zirconium in the form of silicates or carbonates; zirconia occurs naturally in isolated form in only one ore: baddeleyite. Although the number of ores from which zirconia can be extracted is fairly large, only two of them are mined industrially to obtain zirconia: baddeleyite and zircon.
