Determining the pharmacokinetic parameters of any drug is the key to establishing its directions for use and dosage. Such studies are traditionally carried out on appropriate tissue cultures before being transposed to animals and then to man.

In some cases, the pharmacokinetic properties of the active ingredient require structural modifications to change its physico-chemical characteristics in order to achieve the therapeutic objectives of the drug candidate (see paragraph ).
