3. Miniaturization of tests: use of microplates
Researchers have a wide choice of microplates of different brands, with a large selection of 96- and 384-well plates.
White plates are generally used for bio/chemiluminescence measurements. Black plates are used for fluorescence measurements, providing a low fluorescence background and minimizing light scattering.
Untreated polystyrene surfaces (or medium fixation) are hydrophobic in nature and bind biomolecules by passive interactions. They are ideal for immobilizing large molecules such as antibodies.
The large binding surface areas can be used to bind medium-sized molecules (> 10 kDa) and large biomolecules with ionic groups and/or hydrophobic regions.
