The activities of building inspection firms are governed by Articles L. 125-1 to L. 125-6 and R. 125-1 to R. 125-21 of the French Construction and Housing Code (CCH).

Under the terms of articles L. 111-1 and L. 125-1 of this Code:

"The technical controller's mission is to contribute to the prevention of the various technical hazards likely to be encountered in the construction of works.

"He intervenes at the request of the project owner and advises the latter on technical problems, within the framework of the contract binding him to the latter. This opinion covers in particular problems concerning the solidity of the work and the safety of people.
