Conduction is a form of heat transfer from near to near in a non-moving solid or liquid. This phenomenon is governed by the temperature distribution within the solid, the heat flow and the thermal conductivity of the material concerned. In reality, boundary conditions impose other rules that do not simplify the approach.

• Simple case

  In this transfer mode, two elements are closely interconnected: the temperature distribution within the solid and the heat flux that flows from one point to another. In the simple case where temperature depends only on one direction, e.g. x, the heat flux Q (in W/m ² ) can be expressed as:
