Ventilation of residential buildings

Natural ventilation is linked to wind and air movement caused by the temperature difference between inside and outside the home.

The air is extracted from wet rooms (shower rooms, toilets, kitchen) either through grilles on the facade, or through ducts. These ducts can be of two types: individual or "shunt".

Individual ducts connect bathrooms, toilets and kitchens directly to the roof. The ducts corresponding to different rooms or dwellings do not communicate with each other. This type of installation was used in buildings until the mid-1960s.

With the "shunt" system, bathrooms, toilets and kitchens, located one above the other, are connected to a vertical flue.
