4. Calibration of the FLM3 Fatigue Model

The FLM3 fatigue load model is intended for routine design checks without, if possible, any damage calculations using, for example, the Palmgren-Miner rule. It is based, on the one hand, on existing models in national standards and, on the other hand, on the design principles agreed upon for steel railway bridges.

The initial idea was to obtain a “fatigue train” such that, after a single run of the model along the bridge and after numerical adjustment with appropriate coefficients, a single stress variation could be calculated.

4.1 Calibration Procedure for a Fatigue Train

First, a series of service lives is calculated based on the Palmgren-Miner rule for detail class No. 36 in order to obtain a realistic numerical set of service lives....
