9. Special bitumens
As stated in EN 12597, a special bitumen is a bitumen manufactured using processes and selected bases to give it special properties that enable it to meet certain more stringent requirements for road or industrial applications.
A note in paragraph 2.5.3 of standard EN 12597 specifies that this definition includes, but is not limited to, multigrade bitumens, emulsifiable bitumens and pigmentable bitumens.
