Urban alignment is the simplest and most obvious form of landscaping. It consists of planting a line of trees along the sidewalks of a road. The number of these alignments can vary according to the width available for planting. When there are several alignments, they are called "mails". These alignments play a number of roles in urban planning, including: the identification and hierarchization of lanes through specific landscaping; the creation of a pleasant atmosphere through the action of these trees on temperature, wind and noise; the unification of a generally heterogeneous urban facade without masking its distinctive features.
