Eurocode 5 - Design of timber structures

The specific objective of establishing a single market has led the European authorities to develop new tools to eliminate the obstacles that can hinder trade within this market. The first act of harmonizing national laws and regulations is known as the "New Approach".

In order to ensure the free movement of construction products within the European Economic Area, the CE mark is affixed by the manufacturer, attesting to their conformity with essential requirements. The technical specifications for products that meet these essential requirements are set out in official documents known as harmonized standards. Products complying with harmonized standards are presumed to meet the essential requirements. However, the manufacturer is free to apply other specifications to meet the requirements.
