ABSTRACT
The article examines the various aspects of fire resistance in steel and composite (steel-concrete) structures. It emphasizes that steel's performance deteriorates under the influence of heat and that several factors such as the duration of fire exposure and applied loads influence this performance. Solutions for enhancing fire resistance are also discussed, including the use of insulating barriers and intumescent paints. The article covers standards and calculation methods, notably Eurocodes 3 and 4 and the ISO 834 standard, and suggests modern methods like numerical simulations for assessing fire resistance.

INTRODUCTION
In a context where structural fires represent a major risk to
the safety of people and property, it is crucial to understand the
factors that influence the fire resistance of construction materials,
particularly steel. This article examines the many facets of the fire
resistance of steel and composite (steel-concrete) structures, covering
topics such as the impact of heat on steel properties, regulatory
standards and modern assessment methods such as numerical simulations.
