5. Waterproofing engineering structures
Reinforced concrete structures (bridges, viaducts, tunnels) require the same protection as other buildings, to prevent water, rain and aggressive products from damaging the concrete and especially the reinforcing steel.
5.1 Stress on public works structures
• Deformation of substrates due to concrete shrinkage, soil movement, weight of structures and resulting movements.
• Concrete cracks
• Wind on bridges modifies joint shape.
• Water, rain, snow, groundwater and soil water can contain salts (chlorides, sulfides, etc.) that are aggressive to structures, which can damage buried parts of structures and corrode reinforcing...
