Cold formed light gauge purlins – Behaviour and design

Purlins are made from hot-rolled steel sheet or strip, coated or uncoated, which is cold-formed (i.e. at room temperature) using processes such as press-brake or roll-forming.

The press is designed for small components, simple shapes and/or small quantities.

Rollertrain roll-forming is dedicated to high-volume production (up to several dozen, or even hundreds of kilometers of sections per day for the largest production units). The steel strip, whose width is defined by the development of the finished profile, is fed continuously through a series of rollers (roll train), each of which progressively deforms the strip until the desired shape is obtained.
