1. Tensioned components
A component is said to be tensioned or in pure tension when its ends are subjected to forces that impose a uniform elongation on all the component's fibers. Within the framework of beam theory schematization (see
[C 2 550, § 2.3]
), the component is tensioned if the resultant of the forces exerted on any section is reduced to a normal force applied to the section's center of gravity G and directed from the section to the outside of the element, as illustrated in figure
