At the beginning of the 20th century, in France, the discipline of design was associated with "industrial creation", i.e. with the logic of mass production and possible duplication (which is no longer necessarily the case in today's society, with its growing range of services).

As a reminder, in English we speak of "urban design", "architectural design" and "process design", which do not exclude the notion of specific context from the definition of design.

The design project responds to an observed need and is intended to make life easier for users. It is therefore connected to the times in which it is conceived, insofar as the definition of intentions is based on an understanding of the context and the technical possibilities offered by progress.
