A generation is defined as a set of generators and possibly a single storage tank, jointly supplying energy for one (or more) of the following uses: heating, cooling and DHW production. A generation supplies one (or more) network(s), which may be physical or virtual, but are all of the same type.

As a result, one generation is used in all possible configurations, with two exceptions: the CESCI (individualized collective solar water heater) and the CESCAI (collective solar water heater with individualized make-up). In these two cases, the generation → primary network → secondary network diagram is no longer valid.
