Wooden supports

Only solid wood supports are taken into account in the DTUs for tile roofing. They can be used for all clay tile families.

Solid wood supports are of the discontinuous type, and are made up of battens in the case of tenoned tiles. They can be discontinuous (battens) or continuous (tongue-and-groove floor), or even triangular rafters along the line of the steepest slope, in the case of plain tile roofs.

Solid wood must be air-dry and comply with the relevant standards. All species approved for structural use (cf. Rules CB 71) can be used for roofing. In practice, fir and spruce are the species most frequently used for sheathing and sheathing.
