Clay roof tiles are designed to be laid on three main types of support:
continuous supports (wood, masonry or terracotta);
discontinuous supports along the line of steepest slope (triangular or non-triangular rafters);
discontinuous wooden batten-type supports, perpendicular to the line of greatest slope, for plain tiles with tenon(s).
