The following types of retaining screen are available:

• sheet pile curtains (figure 37 ): generally made up of metal sheet piles, nested one inside the other and driven into the foundation soil, to form a vertical screen, usually rectilinear, used to support a soil mass;

• Berlin, Paris, Lutetian, Moscow composite walls (figure 38 ): discontinuous shield made up of regularly spaced deep foundation elements (piles, micropiles, bars) (vertical rigid structure) and armouring elements supporting the soil mass, resting on the vertical rigid...
