2. Transition from French standards to Eurocodes and their applications
For several decades now, the Eurocodes have been the essential reference for structural design and dimensioning in the European Union. They have gradually replaced former French national standards such as :
BAEL and BPEL: for concrete ;
CM66: for steel construction ;
NV65: for snow and wind loads.
This transition has harmonized practices and fostered fair competition between companies and design offices within member states. Today, Eurocodes are fully integrated into dimensioning methods, and mastering them is essential for any designer or checker.
However, the application of standards may differ depending on the type of market.
