Self-supporting arch construction consists of building a structure in full spans in an arch suspended from a load-bearing steel structure. This structure is supported, towards the "rear", on the end of the deck already in place and, towards the "front", on a pier (or abutment). Once the concrete of the new span has hardened and been prestressed, the bend is moved to span the next span, using a metal forebay to facilitate docking on a new pier.
A distinction is made between "overhead" self-launching hangers, which carry the formwork by means of hangers, and "underneath" hangers, in which the formwork is attached to the load-bearing...
