Road tunnel safety - Technical provisions

The facilities for emergency vehicles must be able to be used by an 8 m long, 2.5 m wide pump-ton van, with a turning circle between walls of 19 m.

• Tunnel installations

  In tunnels over 1,000 m long, emergency vehicles must be able to pass from one tube to the other at intervals of around 800 m, if two tubes are present (and if this is possible), or to turn around in other cases.

• In two-tube tunnels, where communication galleries between tubes are provided for the evacuation of users, this will be achieved by making some of these communications accessible to emergency vehicles. If such inter-tube communication galleries...
