Choice of ATM network for Strasbourg tramway

In 1998, Strasbourg's transport company decided to give itself the means to implement new multimedia technologies in the years to come.

To do this, it has innovated by adopting an ATM network, which until now had been the preserve of telecoms companies.

Every day, the system we use proves to be highly reliable, despite the constraints of the installation and the environment, which are far more severe than those found in IT "clean rooms".

As new extensions get underway, the bandwidth reserve reassures us that the existing network is capable of absorbing future lines.

As far as extensions are concerned, CTS plans to continue using ATM technology, but technological progress is proceeding at such a pace that the network will surely have increased transport capacity (2.6 Gbit/s).
