The various functionalities that can be implemented in an intelligent sensor are made possible by digital techniques that enable easy duplication, as well as parameterization. This ability to adapt enables them to adapt to the physical phenomenon and the transducer, and leads to the elimination of certain constraints. However, the amount of information flowing through the network from intelligent equipment can quickly become significant, posing problems of network load and hence automation management. In this case, the possibility of introducing high-level information processing and/or decision-making algorithms into the equipment helps to reduce data flows.
