Control of sustainable production systems

To meet current and future socio-economic challenges, and in particular the imperatives of sustainable development, the management of production systems had to be based on new principles: seeking resilience (long-term concerns) over reactivity (short-term concerns), and jointly managing the use and maintenance of the production tool, while respecting the principle of solidarity-based opportunism. Now that digital technology is ubiquitous, it facilitates interaction between players and access to the knowledge required to apply these principles (e.g., knowledge of the environmental consequences of decisions made during operation). At the same time, however, digital technology has a considerable and growing impact on the consumption of energy and non-renewable resources, and engineers need to use it appropriately, efficiently and effectively.
